Description Kinetica gamifies different aspects of fitness within a virtual, social context. Individuals can exercise alone, with many others, and with a specialist (trainer, therapist, clinician). This Hackathon build allows for two people to enter into a beautiful environment where one user(the Trainer) guides the other user (Trainee) through different body movements. These movements could be traditional workout moves (arm raises, curls, squats), sports-specific mechanics (golf swing, yoga, karate maneuvers), dance moves, or physical therapy exercises to promote targeted mobility. The Microsoft Kinect allows for non-intrusive full body tracking with high accuracy and low latency, allowing the user to see a direct overlay of the trainer along with multiple perspectives of themselves.

Lava Tube Simulation
Visualizing data gathered from rovers exploring lava tubes.
Description
A team at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory is looking at lava tubes as potential shelters from the harsh environment on the surface of Mars. Virtual reality provides a unique way to visualize the data that will be gathered by rovers exploring the lava tubes. Working with JPL, my team and I produced this proof of concept VR application that help visualize data gathered from a simulation of such an exploration.
A single lava tube is explored by five rovers. The user is able to see each rover's camera feed, and the surface seen by the rovers is highlighted. Data points are navigable with the ability to increment and decrement time. Different perspectives are achievable by transforming the tube to the desired position, rotation, and size, as well as by teleporting into the tube. Information can be turned on and off to allow for a focused look at the desired data.
